The Samsung Galaxy S23 series is expected to be announced in February next year.

By Ankita Garg: We are approaching the end of 2022 and details about next year’s launch of 5G phones are already appearing online. Some smartphone companies have also confirmed the 2023 launch date for their latest phones. The Redmi Note 12 Pro+ is coming to India on January 5, while the iQOO 11 will be announced on January 10. Samsung is also tipped to unveil its next-generation flagship Galaxy S23 series in February next year. Here’s a rundown of all the phones likely to launch in early 2023.

Samsung Galaxy S23

The Samsung Galaxy S23 series is expected to be announced in February next year. As this becomes a flagship series, you can expect high-end features at a premium price. It is said to offer the ability to record videos in 8K resolution, the feature that was also available with the previous model. However, it was limited to just the Ultra model, and both the standard and Pro variant offer support for 4K 60fps. Last year’s Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra comes with the ability to shoot 8K video at 24fps and the new one is said to offer the option to shoot at 30fps.

With support for higher resolution videos, Samsung is expected to provide better storage options as such videos take up more space. The leaks suggest that the Galaxy S23 Ultra could come with 256GB of internal storage as standard. The new version is also said to offer the latest UFS 4.0 storage version for improved read and write speed. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 series will likely be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, so you can expect much smoother performance.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 isn’t expected to get support for faster charging speeds than what we got on the older version. The leaks claim that the company will only support 25W wired charging and 10W wireless charging. There are Android phones in the order of 30,000 that come with an 80W fast charger, and Samsung still offers its flagship handsets with support for slower charging speeds.

The standard variant in the Samsung Galaxy S23 series may continue to offer a small battery due to the compact form factor of the device. Its predecessor, the Galaxy S22, offers a 3,700 mAh battery under the hood, and the new one could come with a 3,900 mAh unit, according to leaks. This is still quite small and will run out faster just like the Galaxy S22. The software on Samsung phones also needs work on battery optimization to provide better battery life. Samsung’s flagship chipset and heavy One UI software squeeze more battery.

Redmi Note 12 Pro+

The Redmi Note 12 Pro+ will be launched on January 5 next year. The company has confirmed the launch date of the 5G phone. It has been confirmed to have a primary 200-megapixel rear camera. The device was recently launched in India, so we know the possible specifications. The mid-range smartphone has a 6.67-inch FHD+ OLED 120Hz display with Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and brightness up to 900nits. Under the hood is a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 SoC. It offers a 5,000mAh battery with support for 120W charging.

iQOO 11

The iQOO 5G series will also be announced next month and the launch date for this is January 10, 2023. The same device is already available in China, and the Indian variant is expected to share specifications with it.

If this happens, the upcoming iQOO 11 will have a 6.78-inch AMOLED 144Hz display that will run at (QHD+) resolution. iQOO has adopted Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset to provide users with smooth and fast performance. The charging speed is limited to 120 W for a 5000 mAh battery. The rear camera system on the iQOO 11 includes an OIS-compatible 50-megapixel Samsung GN5 primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide unit and a 13-megapixel snapper with a 2x optical zoom.

OnePlus 11

The OnePlus 11 is expected to arrive in March or April next year if we go by the earlier launches. This time around, the company isn’t expected to unveil a Pro model and its latest offering may only include the standard OnePlus 11 version, according to the leaks. The rumor mill has revealed many details long before launch.

It doesn’t seem like OnePlus is considering making any design changes as the leaks suggest we’ll see minor updates in this area. The front remains the same and we will see the perforated screen design. On the back, like the OnePlus 10 Pro, there could be a one-sided rear camera setup. But this one appears to have a circular camera module on the rear, rather than the square one we saw on its predecessor. The bezels around the screen are almost zero and there’s a very thin chin on the back, something the leaks have suggested. It is unknown whether it will have a warning slider or not.

It won’t be surprising if OnePlus decides to use Qualcomm’s top-notch Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC for its new smartphone, as it will be a flagship device. OnePlus is expected to offer a faster storage version with the upcoming phone for faster app loading times and read/write speed. The OnePlus 10 Pro offers UFS 3.1 storage and the new one is expected to have a UFS 4.0 solution, something tipped for the Samsung Galaxy S23 series. There are no details on whether the upcoming OnePlus phone will have an IP rating or support for wireless charging. It could have a 5000 mAh battery under the hood.

OnePlus recently announced that select 2023 phones will receive long-term software support. While it hasn’t revealed the names of the phones, the OnePlus 11 will probably apply for this one as it will be a flagship phone of the brand. OnePlus has promised to provide four years of Android OS upgrades and five years of security patches. We will get more clarity on this during the launch event.

xiaomi 13

The Xiaomi 13 will arrive early next year, something the company’s CEO Lei Jun has suggested. He has confirmed that Xiaomi plans to launch it in the global market soon and this time it will be much earlier than the older version. As a reminder, the Xiaomi 12 Pro was announced in India in April this year, but its successor will be much sooner.

It is not known whether all the phones in the Xiaomi 13 series will be launched in India. But we do expect Xiaomi to launch the Pro model as only Xiaomi 12 Pro was made available in India earlier this year.

The Xiaomi 13 Pro has a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision and HDR10 support. The screen is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. The Leica-powered camera system on the Xiaomi 13 Pro includes three 50-megapixel camera sensors (wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto). The telephoto camera offers 3.2 optical zoom. It packs a 4,820mAh battery with 120W wired and 50W wireless charging. It is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor.
