Santosh Shoban, who attracted the youth with Ek Mini Katha, teams up with Merlapaka Gandhi for a comedy entertainer titled Like, Share & Subscribe. Jathi Ratnaalu actress Faria Abdullah played the female lead. The movie hit the screens today, and let’s see what it’s like.
Story:
Desperate to take his Youtube channel Guvva Vihari to the next level, Viplav (Santosh Shoban) teams up with Daniels (Sudarshan), a famous cinematographer. They both travel to Araku to make a travel vlog. In this process, Viplav comes across Vasudha Varma (Faria Abdullah), a famous Youtuber and also his source of inspiration. Viplav keeps trying to win over Vasudha, and during this time they get into big trouble. What is this problem? Did Viplav save Vasudha from this problem? Has he won Vasudha’s love for himself? This is part of the rest of the story.
Pros:
Santosh Shoban makes a big impression from the very first frame of the film. The young actor performs with ease throughout the film and he is quite good when it comes to comedic sequences. Santosh also dances well and looks pretty cool in the movie.
Faria Abdullah again manages to attract with her cute looks and performance. There is a bit of innocence in Faria, which fits her role in Like, Share & Subscribe.
After the lead role, Brahmaji and Sudarshan get more screen time and try their best to make the movie watch. A few dialogues are written keeping the social media users in mind, and they do a decent job.
Cons:
The film mainly suffers from a wafer-thin plot and at some point doesn’t offer much more. It gets dragged unnecessarily and continues without a good scenario. There is an undercurrent element to the film, but that is completely sidetracked and the comedic angle dominates the serious aspect. Even the fun part is absurd and silly.
The silly comedy also doesn’t show the emotions well and makes them seem very artificial. The film has a good premise and could have been interesting if the screenplay had been better. But the director only sticks to the entertainment aspect and leaves out the core, which makes the film tiresome.
The Sapthagiri song and other sequences in the second half make us understand how bland the writing is. The length could have been shortened to keep things better. The numbers don’t impress either and add to the length.
Technical aspects:
The music of Praveen Lakkaraju and Ram Miryala is decent. Vasanth’s cinematography is eye candy and he has honestly captured the Araku and the forest locations. The production values are good. The costumes department did a good job.
The long second half should have been completed quickly due to the editing. With director Merlapaka Gandhi he falters heavily about the screenplay. His thought of providing more entertainment kills the soul of the movie, which is why the movie squanders inconsistently. His screenplay needed some heavy corrections.
verdict:
Overall, Like, Share & Subscribe is a disappointing watch. The lead actors, Sudarshan and Brahmaji, try their best, but the lack of seriousness in the screenplay and the underplaying of the focal point make the film a dull one this weekend. You can skip this.
