Celebrity fitness trainers are often asked how the workout is different, so for the uninitiated, celebrity fitness is purposeful, which is a specific kind of transformation is required in a specific time frame. Actors don’t get years to prepare for the role – the time period is usually weeks, meaning they only get that specific time to prepare their body and mind for the role to come, but otherwise it’s all the same.
As assured in an interview with HT Lifestyle, the fitness trainer of Hrithik Roshan and co-founder of Kris Gethin Gyms, Kris Gethin revealed: “Eating cleanly, exercising regularly and intensively, sleeping early, meditation, hydration, never cheating and understanding your physique – all the basics are the same, but I do understand that any kind of transformation is complex, be it mental, physical or spiritual.”
With his experience of over 20 years, he has laid out a few basics that one should keep in mind to get the physique of their dreams as they are consistent and persistent in their approach. Planning a body transformation like Hrithik Roshan? Here’s what to keep in mind, according to his fitness trainer:
1: Keyword must be discipline
To see any real change, you need to be disciplined about your workout, meals, sleep times, and weekends. I firmly believe that health fitness has a lot to do with discipline rather than motivation. Motivation relates to emotions and can change depending on variables and moods. However, when it comes to transformation, you need to be observant and avoid loose ends as much as possible. You have to train, eat and sleep at the same time – every day, 7 days a week to adjust your body to your regimen, only then will you be able to see the real impact.
2: Be intuitive to your body
Hrithik Roshan has one of the most desirable physiques in the Bollywood industry partly because he listens to his body. For example, if he’s feeling stiff or an old injury is bothering him, he knows to avoid heavy weights and instead aim for machines that go for higher reps and higher intensity. However, that intuition comes with time. You won’t understand your body very well for the first few months of exercising, but over time you will understand it better. So listen to your body as much as possible and try to understand the signals it is trying to send out.
3: Don’t be influenced by influencers
While the current generation is curious about fitness and performing better, it is at the same time worrying because the younger generation is very impressionable. They get inspired by ‘Instagram-able body’ and get impatient when they don’t see immediate results. It is important to remember that transformation is a journey – a gradual and rigorous exercise. That’s why setting expectations from the start is critical.
4: Be comfortable with the uncomfortable
Push yourself out of your comfort zone. This will help you train your brain to be more flexible and disciplined. So, for example, take a cold shower, especially at times when you feel like a warm shower. It’s about doing things that push your limits. Another example would be to never hit the snooze button. When you hit the snooze button, you train the neural pathways in your brain to procrastinate, which will be a roadblock in your transformation journey.
5: Take care of the basics
There is a common misconception that to get the “dreamy body” you need to reduce the number of meals you consume. To support yourself on the transformation journey, you need to educate yourself on the proper process – eat clean carbs, include protein in every meal, and drink a significant amount of water. You should also make sure that you give your body enough rest. Prioritizing your sleep can lower cortisol levels, which in turn helps you burn fat and build muscle. So make sure you have your basic knowledge in place before going to high-level intensive training.
Kris Gethin concluded: “Patience and consistency are the two things that will help you achieve the physique of your dreams. So keep the right mindset, practice mindfulness and make sure you follow the right process. It doesn’t matter if I am Hrithik, a businessman or a professional athlete, train, we all have our own problems to navigate, but the consistency of the application needed is the same – it just comes down to how much you want it.”
