RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli, made history on Wednesday by garnering five nominations at the prestigious Critics Choice Awards. As the Critics Choice Awards announced their 2023 nominations, RRR received nominations for Best Picture, Best Director (SS Rajamouli), Best Foreign Language Film, Best Visual Effects and Best Song (Naatu Naatu). Overall, Everything Everywhere All at Once led the nominees with a total of 14 nominations. It was followed by The Fabelmans with 11 and Babylon with ten nominations.
RRR follows a fictional pre-independence story woven around two real-life Indian revolutionaries – Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem – in the 1920s. Ram Charan and Jr NTR in the lead role, the film released worldwide in March in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. It also stars Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in key roles. The film has also garnered two nominations at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards.
