WWE Survivor Series War Games 2022 was an epic event filled with several exciting matches. Two fights on the card were held in the dangerous WarGames structure, plus former friends clashed and the SmackDown Women’s Championship was defended.
Perhaps the best game of the night was the United States Championship. Seth Rollins defended the belt against Austin Theory and Bobby Lasley in an epic battle. Austin Theory regained the title he lost for the first time at Money in the Bank earlier this year.
Many fans were shocked to see Rollins lose, as he only recently won the belt and seemingly gained momentum as a babyface on the RAW brand. Why did Seth Rollins lose the title during WWE Survivor Series WarGames 2022?
Below are 5 reasons why Seth Rollins lost the US Championship at WWE Survivor Series WarGames 2022.
#5. Seth Rollins may start a new feud after WWE Survivor Series WarGames 2022
Set of Rollins losing the title so quickly surprised many fans. The Architect had only just won the US Championship a few weeks before losing it at WWE Survivor Series WarGames 2022. That being said, there may be a good reason why he’s dropping the belt.
Rollins could move on to a new rivalry with an unexpected star where the band wouldn’t necessarily benefit the feud. This is usually necessary if someone in the match is a “gimmick wrestler”. Bray Wyatt, Dexter Lumis, and even R-Truth can be considered gimmick wrestlers, where a title is typically unnecessary in a storyline involving these stars. WWE might have felt it was best to drop him the United States Championship. This allows the title to still be in the spotlight.
#4. He may be suffering from an injury
Professional wrestling is an extremely physical industry. While WWE has more safety measures than any other wrestling organization, there is no way to prevent injuries. These are unavoidable aspects of the business, and even the best wrestlers will deal with some kind of injury at some point in their career.
Unfortunately, the injury bug may have affected the former Universal Champion. He may have lost the US Title to Austin Theory at WWE Survivor Series WarGames 2022 as he needs time off to heal from some kind of injury.
Hopefully, if this is the case, the Kingslayer will not have to undergo surgery, regardless of the possible injury. Randy Orton Reportedly underwent back fusion surgery and even Seth’s wife recently missed nearly four months of action due to an arm injury. It could be that Seth needs time to be gone after that.
#3. Rollins May Feud With Roman Reigns After WWE Survivor Series WarGames 2022
Seth Rollins first debuted on the main roster a decade ago at Survivor Series 2012. He appeared as part of The Shield alongside Roman rule and Dean Ambrose. The three dominated WWE for quite some time.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. After the Shield’s divorce, Roman and Rollins feuded occasionally for the past decade. One of their most recent and notable fights was earlier this year at the 2022 Royal Rumble where Seth lost to The Tribal Chief.
Seth Rollins definitely wants to become world champion again. He may have lost the US Championship at WWE Survivor Series WarGames 2022, so he may enter into a feud with Roman over the world title. Could Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns get a Royal Rumble rematch at the 2023 Royal Rumble?
#2. He may enter into a long-running feud with Austin Theory, swapping titles back and forth
While Seth Rollins could potentially start another feud after WWE Survivor Series WarGames 2022, losing the United States Championship doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t win the title again. The decision to drop Seth’s title to Theory may even be part of a bigger story.
Austin theory is being cultivated. If WWE wants to elevate Theory to stardom, who better to pair him with than someone as wildly talented as Seth Rollins? Theory and Rollins may have a long-term feud.
If A-Town’s Finest and The Kingslayer have a long-standing feud, the title change in the United States could become something fans can see often. The two talented stars can trade back and forth in major Premium Live Events and televised competitions.
#1. Seth Rollins may have dropped the title to feud with a returning Cody Rhodes
During a recent Seth Rollins promo on Monday Night RAW, he reminded fans how he said it Cody Rhodes on the shelf. Many thought this was odd, considering that Seth had recently gone babyfaced.
Rollins mentioning The American Nightmare may have been a calculated move to predict Cody’s return to action. Many expect the former Intercontinental Champion to return to action in the next month or two, and renewing his rivalry with Rollins could be how he is reintroduced.
WWE will likely see Cody Rhodes as Roman Reigns’ WrestleMania challenger. If that’s the case, they’d probably prefer the United States Championship not to be involved in the Rollins-Rhodes feud leading up to the big event.
